Cape Town is home to a thriving breakfast scene that caters to every kind of morning mood, from ocean-facing hotel brunches to plant-filled cafés tucked into quiet corners of the city. In this curated list, I share ten of the best breakfast restaurants in Cape Town, based on recent visits.


Each entry includes the general price range and what I ordered, giving you a well-rounded view of what to expect, whether you’re a local or visiting the Mother City.



1. Shoreditch at The Winchester Hotel

Best For: Ocean-view brunch with flair

Price Range: R250 per person (breakfast buffet with drinks included)


Shoreditch offers a refined breakfast experience along the Sea Point Promenade, featuring a breakfast buffet priced at R250 per person, including drinks. During my visit, I enjoyed a classic plate of poached eggs with fried tomato, mushrooms, sausage, and bacon, perfectly complemented by a soothing rooibos tea. This spot is ideal for leisurely morning meals in a polished hotel setting with standout sea views.



2. JARRYDS Brunch & Bistro


Jarryd’s Carni Big Breakfast

Location: Sea Point

Best For: Lively brunch with friends

Price Range: R100 – R200 per person


JARRYDS Brunch & Bistro is known for its aesthetic appeal, featuring warm lighting, stylish interiors, and touches of greenery throughout the space. It’s a popular spot and tends to fill up quickly, especially on weekends. They don’t take bookings, so be prepared for a short wait, usually around 10 minutes. I ordered the Carni Big Breakfast (R182) with a latte (R48), which delivered on both portion size and flavour. It's a vibrant, energetic spot perfect for social brunches.



3. Sonny and Irene

Best For: Stylish and indulgent breakfasts

Price Range: R130 – R200 per person


Located at The Station House, Sonny and Irene combines plush interiors with an elevated breakfast menu. It’s perfect for a slow, stylish start to the day, especially when you’re in the mood for something elegant in both design and flavour. During my visit, I had the House Breakfast (R185) paired with a café latte (R55).


4. The Gardener’s Cottage

Location: Newlands

Best For: Slow mornings in a natural setting

Price Range: R90 – R140 per person


Tucked inside the Montebello Design Centre, The Gardener’s Cottage is a charming breakfast spot surrounded by greenery and art studios. On my first visit, we had the Chicken Mayo sandwich (topped with pickles on crisp lettuce) for R110 and the Omelette filled with creamed spinach, bacon, and feta for R110. These were paired with a flat white (R36) and a café mocha (R50). I returned for a second visit and ordered the Full Breakfast for R125, paired with a café latte (R45). With its tranquil garden setting and consistently flavourful plates, it’s become one of my favourite breakfast spots in Cape Town.



5. The Ladder


The Ladder Dirty Chai Latte

Location: CBD, Bree Street

Best For: Quiet mornings and casual catch-ups

Price Range: R80 – R120 per person


The Ladder is a calm, creative space with a minimalist edge. During my visit, I enjoyed their English Breakfast (R110) paired with a Dirty Chai Latte (R45), which made for a comforting and satisfying start to the day. It’s a great spot for a solo morning or catching up with a friend, with just the right mix of good coffee, simple dishes, and a peaceful setting.



6. Juno

Best For: Modern design and fresh, wholesome breakfasts

Price Range: R90 – R130 per person


Juno features a sleek, modern design with fresh flowers adding to the inviting atmosphere. Beyond breakfast, they offer a deli, bakery, pantry goods, and other artisanal products. While I haven’t tried their breakfast yet, it’s definitely on my bucket list for the next time I’m in Sea Point.



7. The Stranger Club




Location: Greenpoint

Best For: Calm, minimalist breakfasts

Price Range: R100 – R140 per person


The Stranger Club offers a curated, quiet breakfast experience in one of Cape Town’s most design-forward areas. With fresh pastries on display and a selection of products like honey and milk for sale, it’s a spot that combines style and substance. It’s definitely on my bucket list to try during my next visit.



8. Our Local

Location: Kloof Street, Gardens

Best For: Brunch surrounded by greenery

Price Range: R110 – R170 per person


Our Local features abundant greenery and fresh pastries on display, creating the feeling of dining inside a lush plant nursery. The hearty breakfast plates perfectly match the vibrant, plant-filled atmosphere, making it a favourite among locals and visitors alike.



9. Pauline’s


Pauline’s Reuben Toast


Location: Green Point

Best For: Simplicity and quality in a unique setting

Price Range: R70 – R120 per person


Located in a converted old chapel in Green Point, Pauline’s offers a calm and simple breakfast experience. With a charming courtyard outside and a fresh pastry display by the counter, it’s a perfect spot to enjoy quality coffee and light meals. During my visit, I enjoyed Pauline’s Reuben Toast (R115) paired with a comforting chai latte (R45).



10. The Bee-Stro

Location: Observatory, inside Riverlands Mall

Best For: Minimalist brunch with variety

Price Range: R100 – R160 per person


Tucked inside Riverlands Mall in Observatory, The Bee-Stro offers a sleek, modern take on the breakfast café. Its clean, minimalist interiors are matched with a diverse breakfast menu, from classic plates to contemporary sandwiches, warm bowls, and light meals. During my visit, I ordered pancakes (R100) and a Traditional Full Breakfast (R130), paired with freshly squeezed orange juice (R37) and a café latte (R40). It’s a calm, curated space that balances style with substance, ideal for both solo coffee stops and relaxed catch-ups.
